I tried actually sewing one on, but I don’t have the right size buckle to go with the strap, so might won’t hold tight. I also use a Marmot 20 liter pack which does have a thin hipbelt, but it is more limited space-wise and weighs a couple of ounces more. I am a 6-foot tall male, weighing 185 lbs and it fits just as well as other day packs I’ve tried. Walmart had a small section of packs and for the most part I was satisfied.
My son and daughter each took one of these on a trip through Europe and they carried it on every plane, train, and bus they rode without any problems. The Tundra Haul features rubber clasps, which I really like, and hard plastic wheels. Surprisingly, you don’t have to spend a lot to get a decent packpack to get you started.
As always, make sure to bring the “Ten Essentials”, extra food and water, sunscreen etc. For most cases, the backpack that comes with me for hikes and longer trips is the Gregory ozark trail chair Baltoro 65L. As far as multi-daypacks go, this one might take the cake. The price is right, the capabilities are there, and the durability seems to be inherent. It would make a great camping backpack but also serve well as a travel backpack for more urban adventures. We like that this pack has a lot of pockets including a zipper that allows you to access the middle of the pack without opening the top.
I decided to get this one for a light hike I was going to be doing while camping. For the second overnight hike in which I used the pack, I left the hammock at home and stuffed an REI Stratus insulated pad and lightweight bivy inside. I was a little concerned with how the straps would distribute weight. Prior to taking it out on the trail, I did give it two coats of silicone spray so that it would shed water. Choose this pack if you prefer a smaller yet spacious design, as it has useful features and the durability of larger options. On the small side, so it won’t work for hikers who need a spacious pack. By default, this unexpectedly ended up being my go-to daily bag for several months. Follow the signs to stay on established paths to reduce your chances of getting lost.
