Scott Breithaupt of SE Bikes and literal pioneer of BMX fame, speaks to this topic in an interview with BMX Ultra, here.

It rode terribly no matter how many times I tried to tune it up. Mongoose Bicycles are essentially produced and marketed for two different demographics.

Not that I had many bikes to compare my ’96 to,(only my old huffy pro thunder), but it is so light and quick and really responds quickly to every turn when I ride it.
