There is a low level shimano hydraulic disc brake kit that is SO NICE compared to the cable disc brakes. Raceit, I wanted but did not have a Mongoose in my teenage years. I guess that is why I still WANT that 1980 Supergoose I never had. I am a bit closer by now having my ’96 Mongoose expert pro. I too like the old school better, but for now the Mid School is all this guy can afford. Mongoose Bikes are now just one brand of many in the vast stable of performance bicycles owned by, Wisconsin based, Pacific Cycle Inc.
It’s easier to ride my 79 without hands, but, more comfy to ride the Expert Pro. But, there is something I like about the smaller 18.5″ top tube – it always feels like it’s under you. When it was shipped to me, the forks and stem were still on the bike and I never took them off. I like mine too, I just wonder how an old school would feel in comparison. Well, someday I will have that extra $450 lying around to pick up an Old School Goose.
