Bikes of Yesterday: 1963 Schwinn Fleet Cruiser Bike

Take a spin on these modern reproductions to learn why true classics never go out of style. When our shop re-opens to the public following the coronavirus outbreak, we’ll be happy to discuss options for fit customization, upgrades, and accessories. We wanted to showcase the Turi on this list because of its versatility.

When I got old enough (and big enough!) schwinn ebike to ride it, my grandparents let me ride a bike that was just taking up space in my grandfather’s shed, a 1963 Schwinn Fleet cruiser bike. Now, I’m not 100% certain it was this exact model but it’s darn close. “Technology” makes it sound complicated, but it’s really quite simple. The pedals on the Townie are placed more forward on the frame, so that instead of pushing straight down on the pedals, you’re pushing slightly in front of you. The Electra Townie 7D comes in a wide variety of bright and cheery colors, and is also one of the best-quality cruisers on this list.

So I think, personally, you’re gonna find our seats to be more comfortable than Schwinn seats. We use different foams, different sizes, different springs like that, that are gonna make our cruisers way, way more comfortable, especially as you move up in the price range. If you go to the In the Barrel or the women’s cruisers, you’re gonna see our seats, the bucket saddle, the stitching, it looks really nice, and it’s all about comfort. Where we differ from Schwinn, is you just look at our color selection.

We also recommend the sixthreezero EVRYjourney Women’s Beach Cruiser for riding over hills, commutes, and boardwalks. If it doesn’t fit, you don’t like it, any reason, you can send it back and we’ll take it back no questions asked. Because our goal here at Sixthreezero is to make sure everybody loves their bike. So “cruiser” may have originated as one model name used by one distributor of the motorbike style of bicycles. Most models of Schwinn bikes have years of images and information via old catalogs, advertisements and Schwinn documentation. This page lists Schwinn bicycles models (sorted alphabetically) and links to their details.

Front and rear linear pull brakes provide precise, reliable stopping power and speed control so you can ride with confidence in a variety of conditions. We’ve got a wide selection of bike sizes and styles, including electric, to fit a wide variety of riders. The Schwinn Men’s Cruiser Bike is built out of a burly steel frame and comes in mutliple sizes to support a vast range of heights.

5-speed versatility, gutsy balloon tires and the reliability of the world- famous Schwinn cantilever frame.Forged steel front fork, heavy duty saddle and the “look” of a classic. Resident e-bike expert Seplavy rode the Cafe Cruiser and found it plenty powerful to climb short hills. But, like several wide-tire bikes, it has some handling issues while taking turns. It gives riders a range of about 30 to 50 miles per charge, which is more than plenty for beach rides and casual jaunts. For riding the length of a boardwalk or ambling along Main Street, one gear is all you need—and it frees up a hand to hold a soft-serve twist. Singlespeed bikes are cheaper, cut weight, and are, overall, easy to use.

You also get a bottle-cage mount and internally routed cables. Choose from six refreshing colors (with matching fenders, rims, and a chainguard), including beach-inspired sea glass and matte coral. The Brighton also has a wide gear range for climbing hills, faster acceleration, and comfortable riding. But if your rides are a little more challenging than the flat, coastal roads around your favorite seaside town, consider a beach cruiser with multiple gears. Multi-speed bikes can accelerate much faster than single-geared ones and offer a much smoother ride. To some, a cruiser is just a singlespeed bicycle with balloon tires, a comfy saddle, a coaster brake, and a wide, sweeping handlebar.

In addition to the wider tires which offer some cushioning, the spring saddle does a great job of absorbing bumps in the road. SixThree Zero has a couple of cruiser bike options, but the EVRYjourney is our favorite. While basic and budget-friendly, the quality is pretty solid for the price.

Since then, she’s been back in the cruiser saddle on bike tours in her hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and around the globe. The coaster brake, or back pedal brake, is another classic, retro feature of a beach cruiser. Coaster brakes need very little maintenance and just keep things simple. Its upright geometry puts you in a position that takes strain off your neck and back and lets you take in the sights around you. But that means it isn’t ideal for steep climbs up winding mountains.
